How an epoxy floor is built, layer by layer
Epoxy flooring is a coating system built on the concrete you already have, not a covering laid over it. We start by grinding the slab to take off old paint, coatings, stains and dirt and to open the pores, then repair cracks, holes and imperfections. A primer that fuses into the concrete goes on next, so the bond will not peel, followed by a base coat and your choice of finish. An abrasion-resistant polyaspartic topcoat closes the floor with a glossy, UV-stable surface that does not yellow.
Against paint, tile or carpet, epoxy is seamless and non-porous, so oil, road salt and spills wipe off instead of soaking in, and there is no grout to scrub or carpet to replace. It has low odor and low VOCs, it is pet friendly, and it cleans with soap and water, with no stripping or waxing.
