Metallic epoxy is a self-leveling epoxy resin mixed with metallic mica pigments, poured over concrete that has been ground and primed and worked by hand while it is still wet. The pigment moves and settles as the resin cures, which gives the floor depth and a three-dimensional look, and it is sealed under a clear, glossy topcoat.

Why one room deserves more than tile or paint

Paint on concrete scuffs and lifts, and tile in a small room is mostly grout lines and cut edges. A metallic floor is poured as one piece, so a small room gets one continuous surface with nothing to trim, nothing to lift and nothing to regrout. In a hall that takes boots all winter, that difference shows within a season.

It is poured on the slab you already have. Once the concrete is ground, repaired and primed, the resin goes straight onto it, so there is no demolition and nothing to haul away, and because the resin is self-leveling it evens out minor unevenness as it goes down.

A strong floor in one room also adds to the whole house. A metallic finish enhances property value, and putting it in the room guests walk into first makes it a worthwhile investment rather than an indulgence.

Living with a small metallic floor

Easy to keep. Salt, mud, red wine and coffee sit on the seamless, non-porous surface and wipe up, with no grout to darken and no seam to catch grit. A sweep and a damp mop is the routine, and there is no waxing.

Hard to wear out. The system resists impact, abrasion, scratches, chips and chemicals, so wet boots by the door, stools at a counter and chair castors in a study do not wear a dull patch into the gloss.

Stable and comfortable. Grinding, repair and moisture control before the pour stop the floor from peeling or bubbling, the topcoat is UV resistant so it does not yellow, and the finish is low odor, low VOC and pet friendly, which matters in a room the family uses every day.

Base, pigment and gloss when the walls are close

The base color comes first, and in a small room it is the biggest decision. A dark base with pearl or bronze worked through it makes a hall or a den dramatic; a light base with graphite veining keeps a small room open. Custom blends are mixed for the job where the room needs a color of its own.

Pigment and pattern come next. Pearl, bronze, graphite and custom blends can be worked toward marble, liquid metal, stone, granite, wood or water. In a small room a bold pattern is seen whole, so it can carry more movement and contrast than the same pattern stretched across a big floor.

The finish goes on top. Every metallic floor is sealed under a clear, glossy, UV-resistant topcoat that resists yellowing and wear, and an anti-slip agent can be added to the final coat where the floor takes wet shoes. The gloss suits rooms lit artificially, which most small interior rooms are.

Grinding comes first. Diamond grinders remove old paint, tile adhesive, carpet glue, stains and dirt and open the pores of the concrete so the primer bonds into it. In a small room every edge is close to the eye, so the perimeter is ground as carefully as the middle.

Cracks, holes and old patches are opened out, filled and ground flush, and control joints are treated so the pattern runs across them. On a floor this size nothing can hide at the far end of the room, so the repair has to be complete.

Moisture control prevents peeling and bubbles, and thresholds, door frames and the foot of any stair are prepared so the new floor meets them cleanly and at the right height.

From primer to gloss: how it goes down

The primer is rolled into the ground concrete and fuses into it, giving the bond that keeps the floor from peeling. It is the layer a painted floor never has. Once it cures, the metallic base coat is poured: resin tinted with your chosen pigment.

While the base coat is wet, our installers manipulate the pigment by hand to build the depth and movement you chose. In a small room that hand work is seen at close range, so it is carried right into the corners and along every wall.

The clear, UV-resistant topcoat finishes the floor, locking the pattern in and giving the durable, glossy surface that resists yellowing and wear.
