Color that is part of the concrete rather than a layer on top of it. It goes into the slab and is sealed in, so it cannot chip off, peel or wear through the way a surface film does, and the floor keeps its appearance as it ages rather than gradually revealing something different underneath.

You control the finish through the sealer, and that is a bigger decision than the color. The sealer sets the sheen, from close to matte through to full gloss. And it sets the upkeep, because it is the layer that takes the wear and the layer that gets renewed years later without touching the color beneath it. Concrete staining suits indoor spaces where the slab is sound and the look matters: a retail floor, a showroom, an office, a reception area or a restaurant front of house. How a stained floor lives day to day

A floor with genuine depth. The slab's own density and history read through the color, so the finish has variation and movement across a room, and it looks like a material rather than a product. That is the reason most people choose it, and it is not something a manufactured floor imitates convincingly.

Practically, it is one surface with nothing to maintain. No grout lines going dark along the routes people walk, no boards to swell, no seams to lift, and nothing for grit to work into. Cleaning is a mop, and the floor comes up the same each time.

It also keeps every clearance in the house exactly where it is. Nothing is added on top, so doors, thresholds and the bottom stair do not change, and no transition strips appear between rooms.

Your slab decides the final color

Stain reacts with the slab, so the slab is part of the result.

Pour lines, patches and areas of different density take color at different rates and stay visible in the finished floor.

That variation is the point for most people. If you want one flat uniform color instead, we will tell you plainly that a coating gives you that and stain will not.

Testing the concrete, then pricing it

We come and look at what is under your current covering, because until somebody does, nobody can tell you what your floor will do. We lift a corner or work from an exposed area, test how the concrete takes water, and read the condition and character of the slab.

Then the samples go down on your concrete, in the room, under your lighting, and we go through the sealer options with them: the sheen and how the floor gets looked after over time.

You leave with a written specification covering preparation, color, sealer and sheen. If your slab is not a good candidate we will tell you at the visit rather than after a floor has been lifted.
